Christmas is one of the busiest times for family travel. Oftentimes, splitting a long road trip into a couple days is necessary, and a clean and comfortable hotel is the perfect place to rest those weary heads.
My family recently traveled through the beautiful states of Tennessee and Virginia, and we decided to stop in Bristol at the Hilton Garden Inn®.
The hotel is nestled in the mountains of Virginia, and the view is just charming. It is conveniently located right off Interstate 81 near several restaurants and shopping options. Five gold stars for those perks!
The hotel also features its own restaurant, The Garden Grill, where breakfast and dinner are served on a daily basis for an additional charge. Room service and snacks are available, and believe me, those snack areas come in handy when traveling with children. Late night snack, anyone? There's also a microwave and refrigerator in the room, and those are always helpful for traveling families.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by an attendant who assisted us in getting settled in our room. The classy patio and modern decor made for a relaxing environment from the moment I walked in, and relaxation was what we needed since we arrived after 11 p.m. Unfortunately it was too late and much too cold to enjoy the patio, but it would be the perfect place on a warm day.
I also loved the homey feel of the Christmas décor in the lobby. It's always sad leaving our Christmas tree behind when traveling for the holidays, so it was nice feeling the spirit of Christmas away from home.
Aside from all the pretty decor, the cleanliness of the hotel was excellent, and to me, that is the most important aspect of a hotel stay. Clean sheets and sparkling bathrooms will bring me back to a hotel time after time!
Our room was conveniently located on first floor and very spacious with plenty of room for a roll-away for one of the children. A king bed is always a luxury, even if shared with a toddler! I like taking my own pillow when traveling, but there were plenty of comfy pillows as additional options. It's always a plus when extra pillows are available for support.
The room was welcoming with simple yet modern decor. The color scheme was relaxing with neutral tans and greens, and the artwork was really tasteful with barn scenes and water wheels. It was toasty warm when we went in, and due to the adjustable thermostat I was able to change it to a lower temperature for restful sleep.
We had plenty of room for everyone to stretch out and relax after our trip, and the HDTV was a favorite for my little people. Since it was so late, we couldn’t find any cartoons available, so they enjoyed a game show for a few minutes to help them wind down. And yes, the free WiFi was great for this momma blogger!
After a good night of rest, we enjoyed our warm showers, and the curved shower curtain bar made for a much more enjoyable shower experience. No one likes shower curtain cling, especially in a hotel shower! The hand-held shower head was a great feature when getting the little ones showered and rinsed, and plenty of fresh towels were available for our family of four.
Since I was traveling in comfy clothes, I didn't need to use the ironing board/iron, but they are available if needed. The fitness center was really nice with up-to-date exercise equipment, and the complimentary business center offers free printing, copies, and fax! Wow! And could a hotel ever go wrong with an indoor pool? Everyone loves a refreshing swim!
Since we had a long trip ahead of us, we didn't take time for a sit down breakfast at The Garden Grill. We chose on-the-go and in-the-car! A complimentary breakfast would be a nice addition to this hotel, especially for families with children.
At the end of our stay, the check-out attendant was very kind and verified that our time at the hotel met our expectations. He even took time to take a picture of our family with the super cute nutcracker! The manger was very professional and friendly when making my reservation, and she carefully took care of all the details I requested including first floor and a roll-away bed.
I fully recommend the Hilton Garden Inn® Bristol. It's convenient, clean, and the perfect stay for traveling families. Thank you to all the staff for making our visit comfy and cozy!
