It’s October and time for pumpkins, apples, and a family road trip! While autumn is nowhere in the air in our southern location, I felt the cooler temperatures immediately when we stopped for a restroom break in Tennessee.
When I began planning our trip, I knew my family wanted to stop for the night somewhere between Tennessee and Virginia on Interstate 81.
Just past Wytheville, Virginia, located conveniently close to the interstate is Hampton Inn® Ft. Chiswell-Max Meadows.

Check-in at Hampton Inn® Ft. Chiswell-Max Meadows | Review
Even though we were late-night travelers and arrived at the hotel around midnight, check-in begins at 2 p.m.
This is an early hotel check-in time in comparison to many hotels, so early-arriving guests can unpack and relax at their convenience.
The hotel parking lot was almost full and guests were still arriving at midnight. A well-populated hotel is always a good sign!
The check-in attendant was welcoming as he told us the times for breakfast and directed us to the elevator. He also mentioned he would be there all night if we needed anything.
The manager let me know up-front in my phone and email conversations that the hotel was under renovations. The Hampton Inn® Ft. Chiswell-Max Meadows website also alerts guests to the renovations. Guest room and lobby renovations are in progress. There may be intermittent construction noise between 9 am and 5 pm daily. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
In my opinion, hotel renovations are positive and only a minor temporary problem. Renovations mean future guests will have updated rooms and facilities and everyone likes those features at a hotel! The renovations did not detract from our stay and were minimally noticeable in a visual way. I didn’t hear any construction noise, and the hotel was actually very quiet.
Review of Room/Amenities at Hampton Inn® Ft. Chiswell-Max Meadows
The best part about our room hands-down was the comfy pillows and soft sheets. All the room linens, including the bathroom towels, were new, crisp, fresh, and 100% clean! Our room had two queen beds, and the mattresses were exceptionally comfortable. I just wish I could have enjoyed mine a little longer!
The bathroom was newly remodeled, and the final touches are possibly still in progress. The lighting was bright, and the shower and sink areas were very-well cleaned.
The toilet had been cleaned, but there was a slight amount of dusty residue in the area behind the lid. I am very picky about cleanliness, and many people probably wouldn’t have even noticed this minor detail. Overall, the bathroom gets a gold star of approval!
The room at Hampton Inn® Ft. Chiswell-Max Meadows was the perfect size for accommodating a family of four for a one-night visit.
For those traveling for business purposes, Hampton Inn® Ft. Chiswell-Max Meadows offers Free WI-FI, a business center, and an in-room work space.
Cribs and highchairs are available for families traveling with small children. This is the first time in a while that my family hasn’t taken advantage of those hotel services. My babies are growing up!
This Hilton® hotel is 100% smoke free and is not pet friendly (service animals only). Other room amenities include an iron and ironing board, HDTV, a curved shower rod, massaging showerhead, a microwave, and a refrigerator.
A fitness center and outdoor pool are also available for those who may want to exercise before traveling. It was much too cool for the pool to be open at the time of our visit, and I was just overly tired from the night’s drive to add in a workout!
Review of Complimentary Breakfast at Hampton Inn® Ft. Chiswell-Max Meadows
The Hampton Inn® hotel chain has one of the best breakfasts that any hungry traveler could wish for, and Hampton Inn® Ft. Chiswell-Max Meadows held to this high standard as well.
You can never go wrong with the malted vanilla waffles! Syrup, whipped cream, chocolate and caramel toppings, and chocolate candy toppings are a sugar rush for anyone needing a pick-me-up! I stuck with the syrup and whipped cream for my husband and children! Still tons of sugar for early morning, but a road trip is a special event, right?!!!
Tropical Mango and Wildberry-Pomegranate fresh smoothies made with Greek yogurt were another popular option. Apples, bananas, and yogurt, along with fresh-pressed juices were also available in strawberry-banana and green options.
For a heartier breakfast, western omelets, boiled eggs, sausage, muffins, oatmeal/grits, and a large variety of bagels were all available for selection. Drinks included water, milk, juice, and a hot chocolate/coffee/hot tea bar.
Breakfast was packed out with lots of travelers enjoying all the tasty options!
No one should leave hungry when checking out at Hampton Inn® Ft. Chiswell-Max Meadows!
By the way, check-out is at the standard time of 11 a.m. I would have enjoyed relaxing that long, but we had to hit the road!
